Normally anyone who doesn’t use the electricity from the solar panels puts it (entirely) on the electricity grid, but since the return meter has been cancelled, this is no longer interesting. With a household battery, you can also store this energy for later use.
A house battery – installation and VAT – will cost you at least 5,000 euros. In order to encourage this investment, the Flemish government offers a premium on its purchase with European support. And successfully, because more than 11,000 household batteries have already been installed this year. These are numbers from early November.
By comparison, 337 household batteries were installed in the whole of 2020. This year there are already more than 30 times. A premium is also applied to a large portion of these household batteries. This relates to about 7,000 required premiums. This is also a significant increase.
This sharp increase is partly due to higher electricity prices. Until recently, the home battery was a less interesting investment for many solar panel owners, but due to the high prices, many people are trying to avoid consuming too much electricity from the grid.
