Before the release of Halo Infinite, it became clear that two modes in the beginning will be missing: Co-op Campaign and Forge. At the time, developer 343 Industries indicated that the co-op campaign would begin in conjunction with the start of Season 2 and Forge alongside Season 3. However, the studio had to rethink plans. setas it turns out now.
Season 2 will begin on May 3, but 343 Industries is unable to launch the co-op campaign. So this situation was postponed again. The developer says it’s making good progress in developing the co-op campaign, but more time is needed to launch it in good shape. The mode will not be released simultaneously with Season 2, but is scheduled for release later in Season 2.
“We’re making great progress with the campaign network collaboration. To be clear, this work was taking place in parallel with Season 2, as we did for Forge.
But the truth is that it will take more time to get a high-quality, full-featured network co-op experience for four players in the massive and open world of Halo Infinite. We’re also committed to a great split-screen co-op experience on all Xbox consoles, from the original Xbox One to Xbox Series X – and the campaign’s wide-open, non-linear sections present some of the big split-screen challenges that took us more time to solve.
All of this means we won’t be able to ship the co-op network on May 3, at the start of Season 2. But we’re still aiming to introduce campaign network collaboration later in Season 2, and we’ll be sharing a history version of that and for split-screen co-op as quickly as possible.”
343 Industries also provided a brief update on the progress of the development of the Forge. And according to the studio, a lot of progress is being made there, too. The goal is still to introduce this mode into the third season.
“We’re also making great progress at Forge. In fact, we’re already porting Forge to a small group of community creators and working closely with them to ensure you all have a great experience creating, sharing, browsing and playing Forge content. In the near term, we’ll continue the special Forge journey while we make development while we also plan public flights later this year. We still have the goal of shipping Forge with Season 3.”
