Parallels Desktop fully supports macOS Monterey and Windows 11

Parallels has updated their virtualization software to version 17.1. The main feature of the new version is support for macOS Monterey and Windows 11.

Parallels virtualization software allows users to run virtual macOS and Windows applications on Apple desktop and laptop computers. Version 17 of this was launched in August of this year, Now expanded with version 17.1.

Apple macOS updates

The new update makes it possible for Apple M1 chipset-based desktop and laptop computers to run the latest version of macOS Monterey as a host operating system with better performance. In addition, the virtualization software now supports the recently launched Windows 11 operating system in addition to the current Windows 10 operating system.

Specifically, the functionality added in version 17.1 allows users to install Parallels Tools in a macOS Monterey virtual machine (VM) on an Apple desktop or laptop equipped with the M1 chipset. They can then use the copy-and-paste functionality built in between the virtual machine and the base macOS operating system. Moreover, the virtual disk size has doubled from 32 GB to 64 GB.

Updates for Windows 11

In addition, Parallels Desktop 17.1 is now suitable for Windows 11. For this purpose, the so-called Trusted Platform Module (TPM) default is enabled by default. According to the software vendor, this should make it easier to install and run Windows 11.

For end users running a Linux-based VM with Parallels Desktop, version 17.1 provides VirGL technology to enable 3D acceleration.

Version 17.1 is free for all Parallels Desktop 17 end users.
