The art collective FAAR, which stands for ‘artists and residents’, has moved to the former De Ridder brewery in Hertstraat. Seventeen artists have their studios there and also provide a platform for residents to view in a unique environment.

FAAR’s inaugural exhibition kicked off Friday at the former De Ridder brewery on the Hertstraat in Deurne. From drawing and 3D printing to the visual arts. The new 17-member Artist Group is a diverse team of young artists who also run a unique exhibition space in the former brewery that other creative minds can use.

One of the driving forces behind FAAR is Arthur van de Velde, who graduated last year from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Honored to officially open the new gallery and studio space. This did not happen with the classic tape-cutting. No, a solid steel was cut in half, giving early visitors access to their inaugural gallery. “Most of us have recently graduated from Saint Lucas Academy,” Arthur says. “This is a unique opportunity for us to work, but also to strengthen each other. Here we have painting studios, stone, wood and metal workshops and a large exhibition space. And the latter is not just for us. FAAR stands for ‘artists and residents’. We want to provide a platform for residents, and a haven for young artists to share their work” .
FAAR has spaces available for two years. In 2023, the renovation work of the former brewery will begin. Andante vzw, a mental health care center and Miss Miyagi real estate company, bought the site in 2020. Over time, vzw will have a significant portion of its operations and space will also be made for community functions.
The inaugural FAAR exhibition will run until Tuesday 16 November, at Hertstraat 5.
