Ten unforgettable moments in the history of Black Ferns for the 100th audition

Five world crowns, four in a row between 1998 and 2010, are undoubtedly significant moments in the history of black fern. But they are only too far away. As they prepare for the 100th Test on Monday morning (NZT), here are 10 unforgettable moments as they face England in Exeter.

First World Cup win

There is nothing like the first world title won by Black Fern in the Netherlands in 1998.

Sixteen teams entered the match, but no one came close to Kiwi, who beat the United States 42-12 in the final after five attempts by Vanessa Coates.

The biggest win in team history

Palmer and Anna Richards made history in 2014, when they were the first Black Ferns to be inducted into the IRB Hall of Fame.

A tough but talented pioneer, Richards won four World Cups in his two decades with the team and played in Test matches in his 40s.

Having played as captain in 35 Test matches before retiring in 2006, Black Ferns has only lost once under Palmer.

Fiao’o Faamausili makes history

When Fiao’o Faamausili played Canada in the 2017 World Cup in Ireland, he became the first Black Fern with 50 Tests.

Considered one of the best in the game, Faamausili marks the event by scoring 48-5 romp for an attempt in Dublin.

A police detective by trade, he made his debut in Black Ferns in 2002, ten years before ordering.

Faamausili played in five major World Cups before retiring in 2018.

Time for a hat trick win

They did it again in 2006, this time in Canada.

Like the previous two World Cups, with solid victories over Canada, Samoa, Scotland and France, the Black Fern dominated the final.

After giving up just 17 points on the way to the play-offs, the final was another tough game against England, with Black Ferns winning 25-17.

Black Ferns players were awarded semi-professional contracts
