Dekunin’s quick step is reinforced by the inspiration of Giro Mauro Schmid | Cycling

Deceuninck-Quick Step was able to strengthen itself with the talented Mauro Schmid (21). The Swiss made his professional peloton debut last season and won a tough gravel stage against Montalcino at the Giro d’Italia.

Mauro Schmid has been snatched away from ailing Qhubeka-NextHash as he still has a one-year contract. He is now signed for two seasons with Deceuninck-Quick Step.

The Swiss youngster is clearly happy with his move: “This is just a dream come true. I’ve seen this team win so many times on TV. It’s all or nothing here and there are a lot of riders who can win. I want to integrate well here and find consistency in my performance” .

“Anyway, I can start with confidence after my first season. The Giro came very unexpectedly for me and the good days alternated with the bad days. On the Strade Bianche stage everything fell into place instantly, and no one knew me just for my own good.”

CEO Patrick Lefevre also wanted to say something about his latest addition: “The theater has shown Montalcino what he is capable of. He still has a lot of potential, not so long ago he combined many disciplines. We will do everything we can do to make it A better rider.”
