In late December, Poland will begin building a wall on its border with Belarus, where a large number of immigrants have flocked. The Ministry of Interior announced on Monday that construction is scheduled to be completed in the first semester of 2022.
“The pledge we must complete is an absolute strategic investment and a priority in the security of the country and its citizens,” said Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminsky.
Poland will start building the wall in four different places.
The country has already installed a barbed wire fence to prevent immigrants from entering the country. This temporary fence will be replaced by a permanent wall with cameras and motion sensors. The budget for the wall, which will be 5.5 meters high, is 366 million euros.
However, the Polish government does not use the word “wall”, but keeps it at “barrier” and “barrier”. The wall will cover a total of 180 kilometers with the Belarusian border, which is also an external border of the European Union. To the south, the Bug River forms the natural boundary between the two countries.
