TennisThanks to Kim Clijsters’ victories in singles and Kirsten Flipkens in mixed doubles, the New York Umpire booked their second win in eight matches at World Team Tennis last night. The New York referee beat the San Diego Aviators 20-16.
The 38-year-old Clijsters took her third singles victory over CoCo Vandeweghe. The 29-year-old American player, at the beginning of 2018 still ranks 9th in the world, but in the meantime, he lost the 173rd place in the WTA rankings 5-0.
Kirsten Flickins and American Christopher Eubanks then won 5-4 in the mixed doubles. Clijsters and Flipkens played a double match together, losing 5-2 to Vandeweghe and Caroline Dolehide.
The New York Umpire held last place in the standings with two wins and six defeats. Springfield Lasers (6 wins – 2 losses) and Orange County Breakers (5-3) are first and second, respectively. These two teams will effectively qualify for the final scheduled after the group stage. There are still four duels in Clijsters and co.
All World Team Tennis matches are played at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California. The competition runs until November 28.
