Good news from home. News anchor Steve Waters (53) won the Wablieft Award. This award is presented annually to a person, project, or organization that uses simple language or encourages others to do so.
How do you make the information clear to everyone? This is the starting point for the annual Wablieft Prize, awarded by the Clear Language Center. The three contenders this year are VTM Nieuws-face Stef Wauters, Notaris.be and the City of Ghent Housing Indexes. Last year the award was given to virologist Stephen van Guchte.
The awards ceremony was held today in the city of Mechelen. According to the organization, Steve Waters stands out thanks to his clear and natural way of speaking. “In studio conversations, he asks questions that the average viewer asks. He does so in a natural and spontaneous way. In addition, he is easily understood because he maintains a calm pace, puts good focus and takes enough breaks to breathe. He tells the news in a lively and calm voice. .
Stef Wauters describes his award as a character highlight. We often try to make very difficult and complex stories understandable to the general public. We work hard on it every single day and it’s fun for people to say, “You’re fine.”
