Heusden will have a completely new sports and leisure area on the Nederbroekstraat. It will be operational in 2024, and will be the home of KFC Heusden’s third district.

The development of the Nederbroek website is already mentioned in the 2020-2025 multi-year plan. The vision for the future has now been developed into a master plan, in which outlines and design principles are outlined.

The new sports and recreation area will include much more than just a football area for KFC Heusden, with two full football fields parallel to the R4. Changing rooms, sanitary facilities and a canteen will be located in an outbuilding near the grounds.

The sports and recreation area (at Nederbroekstraat) will provide space for a skate park and a multi-purpose basketball court. The recreation area allows, among other things, a bicycle cycle and a natural staircase. For the little ones, there will be a play forest with many facilities.

A green artery thirty meters wide will pass through the entire site, providing a buffer between the active sports areas and the recreation area. Central free space can be marketed by an outside partner, of course within the provisions of the master plan.

Multifunctional hall

Finally, the Nederbroek site will also have a multifunctional hall that can be used for gymnastics and dance activities. The entire complex can be accessed from the north side at Magerstraat. The entrance and exit there and the intersection with the Bosheidestraat will be as safe as possible. A separate mobility study will address this. Parking will be provided for vehicular traffic at the edge of the site, but the focus is mainly on slower road users.

“We are now looking for a designer for the football zone,” says Sport Alderman Filip Demeyer (Open VLD). Then the procedure for finding an outside partner for the open space begins. The maximum experiential value of the entire site is fundamental to the entire development.”

The R4, Magerstraat, Bosheidestraat and Nederbroekstraat itself border the site.
