There are complaints from hundreds of women, who accuse the university of covering up her behavior, and despite the complaints, no action has been taken against her. It now says in a university press release that “the behavior attributed to Heaps is reprehensible and against the values of the university,” which “also praises the courage of the women who came forward.”
The deal comes on the heels of previous class activity of more than 5,000 patients, resulting in $ 73 million in damage.
Meanwhile, a case is pending in California court in which Heaps must respond to the sexual abuse of seven women victims.
At the end of 2017, the first allegations about Heaps were submitted to the relevant university department, although the first complaints were made many years ago. A formal investigation was then launched, but at that time Heeps was allowed to see the patients. She was expelled in June 2018, then arrested and charged in June 2019, which prompted more women to come forward.
According to media reports, Heaps is the highest paid doctor in UC’s hospital network. She worked as a gynecologist for almost 35 years.
