Back to Match Day 27. On February 12, Eupen earned an AA Gent at Kehrweg. On the clock, sniper Ismael Privlejak made it 1-1 by cleverly firing a free kick into the goal, but the pre-paid error in the wall was immediately noticed by referee Lawrence Visser. Reject the target.
Ghent wins the match by the smallest difference. Eubin is not satisfied, as it turns out. The club submitted a complaint to the referee’s administration for refusing to equalize, but it made a mistake.
The Arbitration Department confirmed the complaint to us, but “for us there was no violation of the laws themselves,” Chief Referee Stephanie Ford said. Therefore, the referee did not commit any error, and the match should not be repeated.
Case closed you think. The referee’s section confirms what every neutral fan sees: an apparent push foul by Müsel on Hjulsager in the wall.
In Eupen they did not agree. The club will resume the FA. It’s doubtful if they stand any chance there, but this is another issue for a club seeking asylum in a procedural battle.
Two days after the match, the stage was discussed at Eupen in overtime. “It’s not so smart to try,” said Gert Verhein.
“Because according to the rules, you have to stay one meter away from the opponent’s wall. You can’t stand in front of him anymore. The players must know that.”
Funny photos of Gert Verheyen from our archives prove that players were allowed to stand against an opponent’s wall.
