The US House of Commons approved, on Wednesday, the criminalization of two previous advice to former President Donald Trump.
It is now up to the Justice Department to determine whether to initiate criminal proceedings for “attempts to obstruct an investigation by Congress.”
Dan Scavino, Trump’s social media handler, and trade adviser Peter Navarro declined to testify before a House committee about the storming of the Capitol. Thousands of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6 to prevent lawmakers from confirming the election result a few weeks earlier.
Scavino is accused of meeting Trump on the eve of the raid and participating in a debate on how to persuade members of Congress not to confirm the results of the vote.
Bannon
According to committee chair Benny Thompson, a Democrat, Navarro “never made a secret of his role in maneuvers designed to undo the election results.”
The House voted 220 to 203 against the couple’s impeachment, with only two Republicans joining the Democrats.
The parliamentary committee also earlier referred Steve Bannon and former chief of staff Mark Meadows to court. Currently, only Bannon is on trial. This case should start this summer.
