Only three songs can win an Oscar and a Grammy. In 1961 and 1962, Henry McKinney received both awards. First with “Moon River,” then with “Days of Wine and Roses.” 35 years later, that double honor goes to Celine Dion once again. She won both awards in 1997 with the world famous song My Heart Will Go On.
Maybe Billie Eilish will follow in her footsteps soon. The “What Was I Made For” soundtrack to the movie “Barbie” topped the charts for weeks. The rough song, which she performed with her brother Finneas O’Connell, describes the singer’s depression. “The day I was writing this song, I asked myself, ‘What are we doing? Why are we doing this?’ “The song almost seemed to write itself. My brother and I were inspired by the character we saw in front of us. And then I realized I was the main character in ‘What Was I Made For’.” The general public can thus recognize themselves in the very truthful text: “I think I forgot how to be happy.” “I realize now that it’s not just about me, it’s that a lot of people feel that way,” Eilish said of the success.
It remains to be seen whether “What Was I Made For” will actually make history with an Oscar and a Grammy. Both prestigious awards ceremonies are highly competitive.
