Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) will be the first to leave on Sunday on the grid for the United States Grand Prix, the 18th of 22 World Cup rounds. Qualifying was on Friday, because there was a sprint race on Saturday. Leclerc was 130 milliseconds faster than Lando Norris (McLaren) and 139 milliseconds faster than Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes).
Leclerc claimed his 21st pole at Circuit of the Americas. The rider from Monaco needed 1’34’723 minutes to cover the 5.513 km circuit, and it was his third time this season.
Next to Hamilton is Spaniard Carlos Sainz (Ferrari). Max Verstappen, who has already secured his third consecutive world title since the Qatar Grand Prix, took 5 milliseconds off Leclerc’s time, but the Dutchman’s time was disqualified because he exceeded the track limits.
Qualifying for the sprint race is Saturday at 7:30pm Belgian time, and the sprint race is at midnight. The start of the Grand Prix is at 9pm our time.
