With €21,776, the average annual income in Flanders is 7.0 percent higher than the national average. Residents of Wallonia and the Brussels-Capital Region have to make do with much less financial resources. For example, the average Wallal income is 5.7 percent lower than the Belgian figure (19,192 euros), while a Brussels resident has to make do with an average of 21.1 percent lower year-on-year (16,068 euros).

As in previous years, the Flemish province of Brabant will also be the province with the highest average income per inhabitant in 2021. This income per capita amounted to 23,527 euros. In Walloon Brabant, the average per capita income also exceeds 23,000 euros, reaching 23,442 euros. East Flanders completes the top three with an average annual per capita income of €22,073.

Saint Martins Latime

With an average per capita income of €33,249, Sint Maartens-Latem is the municipality with the highest income. A resident of this municipality has an income 63.3% higher than the national average. Followed by Keerbergen (€30,516) and Knokke-Heist (€29,961).

At the other end of the spectrum, municipalities can be found mainly in Brussels. With an average of €11,082, Sint-Joost-ten-Noode is the Belgian municipality with the lowest income. Along with Sint Jans-Molenbeek, Anderlecht, Varsen, Desson, Kokelberg and Schaerbeek, Belgium has six other municipalities where the per capita income is at least 30 percent lower than the national average. The city of Mesen in West Flanders has the lowest income in Flanders with an average of €16,016.
