After the three-point goal against Copenhagen two weeks ago, Manchester United hopes to take the first step towards second place in the group with another resounding victory over the Danes. It was not a victory, but the result was more worrying.
However, Man Yu started off well. High-priced striker Rasmus Hoglund, who had never scored in the Premier League, scored twice before the half-hour mark. United were in control until Marcus Rashford attacked a Danish player just before half-time and was sent off.
Copenhagen immediately took over the outnumbered situation and gave Manchester two goals before half-time, with Elyounoussi and Gonçalves equalizing. Trainer Erik ten Hag scratched his bare palm, and actually felt the thunderclouds hanging down.
The Dutchman urged his team to calm down and it paid off. United recovered and took the lead again thanks to a penalty kick by Bruno Fernandes. The discharge from the Portuguese was great, but it did not last long.
In an exciting ending, Copenhagen had the last word. An old acquaintance, former Zulte Waregem player, Lukas Lerager scored the equalizer and just before the end, 17-year-old Ronnie Bardje gave United the final shot. The English are in last place in their group, but have not yet qualified for qualification.
