Lotte Kopecky celebrated her 28th birthday by winning a double Belgian title at the Heusden-Zolder Cycling Track. She was the best in the scratch and points race.
Kopecky dominated the points race: after three winning runs she won by nearly sixty points ahead of second place Lani Wittevrongel. At ground zero earlier in the evening, Kubicki made a strong effort to win the title in the final, ahead of Catherine de Klerk and Wittfrungel.
The World Champion then made his Christmas appearance wearing a signed Red Flames jersey donated by Tessa Wohlert.
On the new cycling track in Heusden-Zolder, the men battled for the Belgian title in the points race and the team race on Friday, with Lindsay de Velder (Sport Flanders-Paloise) twice taking first place.
In the team race, de Vylder won gold with Rob Gies, nineteen points clear of youngsters Noah Vandenbranden and Gianluca Polivleet.
In the points race, De Vilader won the title thanks to a lot of sprint points. Despite winning two rounds, Guess had to settle for silver, and Fabio van den Bosch took bronze.
Kopecky, Devilder, and Guess are fully gearing up for Six Days of Ghent next week. De Velder and Gies are previous winners, and Kopecky will compete in the two-day women’s competition in Ghent. The race will be held on Saturday at the Heusden-Zolder cycling track for the Belgian Omnium title.
