The cricketers ended the World Cup with a disappointing defeat against India

The Netherlands lost their ninth and final World Cup match in India. National coach Ryan Cook’s side couldn’t cope with the hosts at a sold-out stadium in Bengaluru. India won by 160 runs.

The loss against India was not a shame as it was the ninth consecutive win for the home team. As the only unbeaten team, India entered the semi-finals, where they met New Zealand. South Africa and Australia will play in the other semi-final. The Netherlands finish the World Cup in last place in tenth place.

India scored 410 runs in the match against Netherlands. Shreyas Iyer scored 128 runs and KL Rahul scored 102 runs. Despite Cook’s men doing their best, including 54 from Deja Nidamanur and 45 from Sybrand Engelbrecht, it was impossible for the Dutch to improve on that tally. The score stood at 250 runs.

Netherlands won the World Cup twice against South Africa and Bangladesh. Apart from India, the team also lost against England, Afghanistan, Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Pakistan.

A defeat against India means that the Netherlands will not qualify for the Champions Trophy in 2025. The team will now prepare for the 2024 edition of the Twenty20 World Cup in the Americas and the Caribbean.
