Are you going alone? No, or yes…
So glad to get all your replies! Thanks. Time flies. Only two weeks left and the adventure begins. Besides wishing you all the best, I have a few questions. I will try to answer them through my site in future. More questions? Send them forward.
Frequently asked question: ‘Are you traveling alone?’ No, or actually yes, … I’m going to New Zealand alone, but I’m traveling with boarders again. Australia’s Mitchell sails back across the Tasman Sea. And Oscar goes up.
Oscar is an experienced sailor who has been on the water since childhood. He makes matches and deliveries. He knows the difference between sailing as quickly as possible and bringing a ship safely to the other side. He is enthusiastic, driven and creative. He likes to sail on the mast.

I haven’t traveled with him yet, but we’ve each had long journeys with Glassjohn, so that’s a good reference. I’m really looking forward to traveling with Oscar and seeing Karma safely back to Chile. In the meantime, I hope to learn a lot from him.
Mitchell wants to go all the way to Porto Williams. OK! I have been discussing with a small number of people about traveling a part of Patagonia. Traveling to the most remote parts of the world surrounded by spectacular wildlife, magnificent scenery, mountains and glaciers is definitely an amazing experience. Getting down and up requires some creativity and flexibility in that area, but seems well organized.

Coastal Personal Safety Training
What to do in case of panic on board? If first aid should be given, if there is a fire or if you need to enter the boat?
Yesterday I practiced this at STC-KNRM’s Offshore Personal Safety Training. A very productive day, we did both theory and practice.
Resuscitate, extinguish with foam, powder and CO2 and pack a life raft with survival suits. For dessert we were allowed to go into the open water together. I think every seafarer should do such training. Even if you don’t pass the matches.
