Along with the USA and Mexico, the Netherlands will have an additional rival in the battle for the 2027 World Cup. Women’s World Cup

The United States and Mexico have not withdrawn as candidates to host the Women’s World Cup in 2027. Second countries have jointly submitted a bid, meaning the Netherlands has an additional competitor.

The Netherlands, Germany and Belgium are bidding for the Women’s World Cup together. So America will face competition from Mexico and Brazil. About two weeks ago, South Africa informed FIFA that it was canceling the World Cup.

Earlier this week, KNVB general secretary Gijs de Jong said he expected little from bids from the United States and Mexico. “Brazil, like any other candidate organizer, is moving full speed ahead,” de Jong said, noting that he saw little movement in the United States and Mexico and canceled.

“That’s absolutely my assessment. It’s an incredible amount of work. The United States and Mexico will host the men’s World Cup in 2026 and the Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles in 2028. Their image is at risk. The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”

The KNVB and the German and Belgian football associations submitted documents to FIFA in Zurich last week. The World Cup will be presented on May 17 at the FIFA World Cup in Bangkok.

With South Africa now out of the system, De Jong wants to focus mainly on African countries in the future. They will vote for South Africa and now have to make another choice. “What matters now is how we reach those countries. Their voice becomes important.

The KNVB hopes that the allocation of the World Cup will encourage more girls and women to play football in the Netherlands. “15 to 20 percent of our membership is now women. In Scandinavian countries it is about 30 percent. We want to catch up.
