Shipping company CMA CGM has announced the official launch of its new sea route called “NAMEX”. This new route was specifically created to facilitate the seasonal transportation of fruits and vegetables from Morocco to North America and to meet the growing demand for fresh produce in that region.
The NAMEX line will provide a vital link between the Tangier Med port and several major destinations in North America, including Halifax in Canada and American ports such as New York, Philadelphia, Norfolk, Savannah and Charleston.

The first ship, “CMA CGM Chile”, is scheduled to depart from Tangier Med Port on January 9, 2024. The direct voyage from Tangier to Halifax will take about a week, while the transit to Philadelphia will take about 13 days. Upon arrival, CMA CGM is considering efficient logistics solutions such as rail links to connect Halifax to Toronto quickly, with an estimated delivery time of just 3 to 4 days.
In addition to the economic importance, CMA CGM also emphasizes the strategic role of this new route. This initiative enhances trade flows and facilitates the transportation of goods to key regions such as Africa and the Mediterranean.

Technologically, the shipping company has a strong commitment to innovation. The refrigerated containers in this line are equipped with “climate controlled atmosphere” technology to ensure an optimal storage environment for the products. Furthermore, the integration of smart refrigerated containers will enable transportation conditions to be monitored accurately and in real time, ensuring the freshness and quality of goods throughout the journey.
