Two divers missing in Eau d'Heure lakes: human remains found

The two divers, born in 1964 and 1977 and from the Liège region, disappeared after an evening dive at the Plate Taille site on Thursday at around 5pm. “This place is not at all intended for such activity. They seem to be accustomed to diving in the lagoons of Eau-Dorre,” the Charleroi prosecutor's office said on Friday.

The son of one of the divers informed the authorities, concerned that he no longer had any news from his father. He went to the place himself and discovered his father's parked car. Diving equipment is no longer there.

The search operations, which began on Thursday evening with the support of divers from Civil Protection and equipped with sonar, led to the discovery of diving equipment belonging to two different individuals on Friday evening. Searches resumed Saturday morning, eventually leading to the discovery of human remains. “They will be examined by a DIV (Disaster Victim Identification) and a medical examiner to confirm their identities, but it is very likely that they are the missing victims,” the prosecutor's office said. Searches have been stopped.
