Space company SpaceX has launched six satellites that serve as mobile communications towers. As a result, Earthlings will be able to call, text and use the Internet in remote areas of the world using their regular mobile phones.
Earlier this week Launched SpaceX's communications subsidiary Starlink has launched its first six satellites with Direct to Cell service. Ultimately, there are supposed to be hundreds that together form a global mobile network in space. Landline communications towers are no longer needed to cover cell phone communications.
In the coming months, Starlink will test the technology, capacity and its comprehensive services. To this end, it works with telecom companies such as T-Mobile in the US, Rogers in Canada, KDDI in Japan, Optus in Australia, One NZ in New Zealand, Salt in Switzerland, and Entel in Chile and Peru.
Even in the highest mountains or remote steppes and deserts, the 2,000 testers should be able to send a text message. Because in 2024, Starlink services will no longer go beyond sending and receiving SMS. The bandwidth of space is now approx Seven megabits per second. This is not enough even for phone calls or WhatsApp. This is supposed to change from 2025, when more satellites are launched.
