The travel sector turns to the government by proposing “travel via the corridor” without quarantine | Coronavirus is spreading

TUI, Corondon, Sunweb and Brussels Airlines contacted the government with a proposal to regulate “travel by taxi.” This says a spokesperson for Tourist Company TUI Piet Demeyere. Travelers will be able to take all-inclusive trips to hotels in the red regions, without having to quarantine afterwards.

The travel ban on destinations in the European Union will be lifted after the Easter holidays, but non-essential travel is still not recommended. Returnees from the red zone, which currently makes up a large part of Europe, will have to undergo two checks and quarantine for a period of seven days.

This means TUI can only market a fraction of its offering, says the spokesperson. To date, the country’s largest tour company has not organized any excursions to the red shaded areas. But with Brussels Airlines, Corendon and Sunweb, TUI wants to change that.

The industry went to the government with a suggestion: Travel “in a controlled manner” in carefully selected hotels in red areas. “Travelers stay near their hotel without going out, and are tested before departure but also before traveling back and forth at Belgium airport. They can then indicate on the Passenger Locator form that they have taken a holiday in the aisle, so quarantine is no longer necessary,” Demier explains. .

According to Demier, the plan was “well received” during his first meeting with the government. The sector hopes that the system will be implemented quickly.
