Manchester City's golden duo is back in action. Both Erling Haaland and compatriot Kevin De Bruyne are expected to be back in the team together this weekend – after a spell out with injury for both. Guardiola also expressed his happiness: “You don't have to study at Harvard or Yale to understand that they can win games more easily for us.”
Manchester City with or without Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland? It remains a world of difference.
The reigning national champion has been busy playing catch-up in recent months. In recent weeks, they have also been able to rely on pivot Kevin De Bruyne, who missed the first round with a hamstring injury, and goal machine Erling Haaland, who is sidelined with a foot injury.
Against Everton, the golden duo are likely to start together for the first time this season in a home match.
Guardiola has previously said that City do not necessarily play better with KDB and Haaland at the start, but they win more games with them in the team.
“It's simple: players like these win games on their own,” Guardiola said during the press conference on Friday.
“If a player scores 60 goals, it helps him win games. The same goes for a player who has a billion assists and a goal. You don't have to study at Harvard or Yale to understand that.”
