BEVERWIJK – The council wants to provide more space for entrepreneurs within the Spoorzone. To make this possible, the housing ambition in the Spurzon district will be revised from 10,000 to 7,000 homes. The amendment only relates to residential construction in the Business Docks Industrial Park. The Council informed the Council of this day.

In 2021, the municipal council set an ambition to create “a challenging, sustainable and livable area in the Spurzon district, where people can live and work with adequate facilities.” At that time, the guideline was to create approximately ten thousand homes and five thousand additional jobs by 2040. However, numerous studies and discussions with interested parties show that housing construction in some locations in the Business Docks interferes with existing economic activities and further development Desirable for the seaport of Beverwijk and other commercial and regional ambitions.

A space for entrepreneurs
Beverwijk Council has therefore chosen to focus more on entrepreneurship at Business Docks. “One of the goals of the Sporzone program is to create a more economically vibrant area,” says council member Ali Pal. “We also want to make the area more sustainable. We also want to add five thousand jobs in the Sporzone. This means that we must preserve enough space for entrepreneurs so that they can do business and become more sustainable. This requires clear frameworks where we do or do not want to add homes.” .

Employment and housing construction
The municipality's housing ambitions will fall on the entire Spurzon area on the city side (about 2,000 homes), the sub-bazaar areas (about 3,500 homes) and the adjacent part of the Parallelweg (1,500 homes). “We have put an end to plans for housing construction in and around the port until 2040,” Pal says. “In these areas, the focus remains entirely on promoting business and entrepreneurship.”
