The White House reported that this week the United States is reaching the goal set by President Joe Biden of getting 200 million vaccines against COVID-19 in the first 100 days of his presidency.
A senior White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Democratic president would deliver a speech “announcing that the United States will reach 200 million doses this week.” The goal will be met with a small start: The 100th day of Biden’s mandate will not happen until the end of next week.
The United States, which regrets the largest number of COVID-19 deaths, has launched an effective vaccination campaign, bypassing some European countries and Canada. When Joe Biden took office on January 20, he pledged to deliver 100 million doses of vaccines in the first 100 days of his tenure, a goal many Republicans said was easy to achieve. On March 25, when the country was ahead of its target, the presidency doubled the figure to 200 million.
All American adults have been vaccinated since April 19. The increase in COVID-19 cases in some parts of the country is dampening joy in the White House. Nationwide, the number of deaths continues to decline thanks to vaccination of the elderly and improved care.
