Britain’s Queen Elizabeth spoke for the first time since her husband died on her 95th birthday. She says she was deeply touched by the tribute that people around the world paid to Prince Philip. It was the first time in 73 years that the Queen had to celebrate her birthday without her husband.
The Queen said: “My family is going through a period of great sadness, but it is a relief to see people in the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world praising him.” Today, Elizabeth is 95 years old, and she is the oldest monarch in the world. She married Prince Philip in 1947, and he passed away on April 9 at the age of 99.
Traditionally, a real Queen’s birthday isn’t a big party at all. With the family mourning for two weeks, no artillery shots were fired at the Tower of London or Hyde Park in London. Her statement read, “I received a lot of congratulations on my birthday today, and I appreciate that very much.” British Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted, “I am proud to be its prime minister.”
Queen Elizabeth was born on April 21, 1926 in Broughton Street, London. She became queen in 1952 at the age of 25, and in 2015 she toppled her predecessor Queen Victoria as the longest reign. She is also a queen in 15 former British colonies such as Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
“I would like to thank you for all the support and kindness that you have shown over the past few days. It has deeply affected me and my family, and reminds us that Philip has had a profound influence on countless people in his life.”
Traditionally, the Queen’s birthday is celebrated at Trooping the Color, which takes place on the second Saturday in June. This was canceled in 2020 due to Corona’s measures. The event will not be held in the traditional form in central London this year either.
The Forces of Color are still celebrated in 2019:
“Communicator. Avid web fanatic. Alcohol practitioner. Award-winning organizer. Bacon advocate.”
