SD Worx-Protime confirms Demi Wohlring's departure: “It's a budget issue”

Demi Vollering (27) will look elsewhere after this season. The Dutch rider has reached the end of her contract with SD Worx-Protime, but the top team in the women's peloton has already extended the contract of Lotte Kopecky (28). Sporting director Danny Stam confirms to GCN that Vollering will leave the team.

The choice also loses to SD Worx-Protime. The Dutch team has many top players in its ranks, but several contracts also expire at the end of this year.

SD Worx-Protime has not hidden the fact that it will be very difficult to retain all the top players in the team.

Lotte Kopecky's contract extension until 2028 was a clear signal a few weeks ago, and sporting director Danny Stam has now confirmed that there is no more money for Demi Völlering.

“It's a budget issue,” explains the Dutchman at GCN. He added: “Everyone knows that Lottie has signed and that we tried hard to keep Demi in the team, but I don't think that is an option for us.”

Stam no longer leaves the door open. “You have to make choices. I think it's clear that we can't have riders of that level on our team.”

A statement from the team provided further clarity: “We made an offer to Demi Wohlring which had to be responded to before a certain date,” explains team principal Erwin Janssen.

“Wöllering's management did not do this. Therefore, we assume that Demi will leave at the end of this season.”
