RSC Anderlecht could become national champions on Sunday. Although George Likens believes this does not follow the correct rules.
RSC Anderlecht and Club Brugge will play against each other on Sunday early evening. The two leaders will then already know the outcome of the Union SG match, making it entirely possible for Anderlecht to win the title.
It’s nice for purple and white, but that’s not the case with George Leekins. He believes the playoff schedule is disrupting the title fight. Anderlecht were never supposed to play when they already knew the result of Union SG.
“I don’t understand why we didn’t schedule the last two matches at the same time,” the former national coach said in an interview with RTBF public radio in Wallonia. According to Likens, this is definitely having an impact.
Financial reasons
“I know the reason for this is financially for TV, but the last two games have to be played at the same time. Otherwise you can start counting as teams. And no one criticizes that,” Leekins still complains.
Likens turns 75 tomorrow. He’s really looking forward to the match between Anderlecht and Club Brugge. There will be a lot of tension in both teams. “Who’s best to handle that? The atmosphere is going to be there. Playing a game like this is what it’s all about.”
