Every Monday, we give you a glimpse into what we have in mind when we pick our Team of the Week. After forty days of matches, we extract the competition’s All-Stars from those Teams of the Week. Not surprisingly, this mainly includes players from the top ranked teams.

Goalkeeper: Warlison confirmed

Arnaud Boudaert single-handedly confirmed that Standard may have saved themselves in the end, while Jean Botez also made good saves with his gloves in certain moments – also in the Champions League, although that is of no value to our team. In terms of percentage, he had the most clean sheets.

However, we pick Warlisson, who has had a very good season with Cercle Brugge. The team didn’t score that often, but finished fourth. Then you definitely have a good goalkeeper. The Brazilian has succeeded in confirming this and always delivers a strong performance. Twelve clean sheets, you can build on it. It has also earned him several nominations in our Team of the Week in recent weeks.

Defense: great experience and a young man with regularity

What can’t we ignore? The rock is called Jan Vertonghen. While Toby Alderweireld was the man in charge for Antwerp last year, it now appears to be the 36-year-old Red Devil in purple and white who is really making the difference. If there is some quality ahead of him, the experienced Belgian could establish himself as an absolute leader.

Toby Alderweireld has also been included in our squad for this season. He kept Antwerp upright several times, and like Vertonghen did with Debast, he made Zeno van den Bosch completely explode.

Matty Smits is a young man who played every minute amazingly and made a good impression on almost all the top teams. Almost all the top Belgian teams want to sign him.

Midfield: Revenge of the bench

Last season, Cameron Puertas had almost no chances, but due to the departure of a number of other players he has had a lot of chances this season. This made a difference. He became the king of assists and provided 14 goals and 23 assists in all competitions.

His new situation stirred something inside him. That can also be said for Julien De Sart, who has also been given a more important role in Ghent due to the departure of Vadis Ogidja and was perhaps Buffalo’s best player all year.

RSC Anderlecht’s best player? Perhaps this was Anders Dreyer in general. The 26-year-old Dane scored 21 goals in all competitions and provided 9 assists, which also made him of great importance to his team.

Creator of Club Brugge champions? This may be the all-in-all Hans Vanaken. Blauw-zwart came into full possession during the qualifiers, because Vanaken also managed to regain his best form.

And the biggest talent of the year? This is and remains Bilal Al-Khanous. He was named Promise of the Season at the Pro League Awards and that’s only natural. It seems that he is ready to move abroad.

Forwards: Statistics are important

Of course, we also have to look at the stats on offense. Kevin Dinke became the top scorer in the Jupiler Pro League with at least 27 goals. This made him of great importance to the Circle of Brugge. Al-Ittihad ranked fourth.

Then of course there is Mohamed Amora, who came from Lugano to Union SG for four million euros. He has made a huge impression by scoring 23 goals and making 8 assists in all competitions, and the Algerian striker impresses with his pace and technique.
