Suddenly it seems we are living in uncertain times again when it comes to doping in cycling. Because after the suspension of Miguel Angel Lopez last week, the UCI has now also imposed a suspension on Robert Stannard.
4 years suspension…
The Alpecin-Deceuninck rider has been banned for four years by cycling’s international body. This is for violating doping rules. In Stannard’s case, this points to the fact that there were unexplained abnormalities in his biological passport. His known “whereabouts”.
It appears that the Australian either did not explain when he was somewhere, or could not provide a correct and/or valid explanation for it. However, there is a caveat regarding stopping the Alpecin-Deseuninck rider.
…or not
Stannard’s suspension has been effective since 2018, from the moment the violations were discovered. This means that the rider no longer has to serve the ban, as he has now served six years.
Understand who can understand, but Stannard is being treated financially as well. After all, he would have to give up 70% of his 2018 and 2019 salary. The passenger can also appeal, although the chance of that seems very slim given the form of the penalty.
