A French company acquires the social media platform BeReal for 500 million euros – IT Pro – News

French company Voodoo has also acquired BeReal. BeReal is a social media where users have to take photos of themselves and their surroundings at any time of the day. Voodoo is paying half a billion euros for the app.

Voodoo It says it will continue to invest in BeReal and share knowledge on “product strategy, growth and infrastructure”. The company wants to continue developing the platform with more users. Voodoo also says that with the acquisition, it will “further diversify into consumer applications.”

Founded in 2019, BeReal now has 40 million users, half of whom use the app at least six days a week. CEO and co-founder Alexis Barreyat will be replaced by Aymeric Roffé, who currently serves as CEO of Wizz, another Voodoo social media outlet. In addition to social media, Voodoo also releases games like Helix Jump, Mob Control, and Block Jam 3D.

The acquired app sends a notification to all users at a random time of the day, who have two minutes to take photos with the front and rear cameras. These photos are then shared with all friendly users. The app quickly became popular two years ago, but Voodoo admits that growth has now slowed to “focus on expanding infrastructure”.
