And now it’s official. Movie star Georges Clooney (60) and his wife Amal Alamuddin (43) bought a vineyard in Provence, southern France, a stone’s throw from Saint-Tropez. It comes to Domaine du Canadel, a 170-hectare estate near Brignoles.

Set in the woodlands is a colossal 18th-century Provencal country house, made of soft pink stone with wooden shutters. It is surrounded by vineyards, lavender field, pond, olive grove, tennis court, Geo de Paul court and swimming pool. It was on sale for 7.9 million euros.

“If someone like George Clooney comes to live in your town, you can congratulate yourself,” Didier Bremond, mayor of Brignole, told French television. Clooney doesn’t have to be afraid of prying eyes. “The estate is in the countryside, very lonely and isolated,” said the broker.

In Brignole, the news spread like wildfire. The first curious people have already reported at the “Le Canadel” entrance gate and the middle class is rubbing their hands. A sewing shop owner said, “Maybe I could take George’s pants.” “I like to take his buddies!”

George and Amal are not the first American dignitaries to settle in Provence. Film director George Lucas has his own vineyard, Chateau Margoy, a few kilometers away. And near Château Maraval, owned by Brad Pitt.
