At KRC Genk they have already brought in four young players. The transfers of Matte Smets and Jarne Steuckers in particular are mainly intended for the first team. They came from STVV, which is always a loaded transfer.
Matt Smits
STVV was not really “happy” that Racing Genk came to take Smets, Steuckers and Fink.
“The fact that – despite offers from other clubs – he has chosen to make this move hurts us as a club and as a region. But this is Matthijs’ decision and we have to accept this decision. It hurts us, but a wounded animal is more dangerous. As a club, we draw additional motivation from this and, in concrete terms, we are looking forward and working to strengthen the defence in the short term.”
Smits was there Limburg TV He is still surprised. “I didn’t expect that. I won’t interfere and let them do it if they want to do it. I am grateful to STVV for the opportunities and minutes they have given me, but now it is time for a new adventure.”
Garni Stokers
Jarne Steuckers also made the move. He also knows that the transfer was a delicate process, but the switch from STVV to Racing Genk is a sporting and financial step for a footballer.
“I’ve also received positive feedback from the STVV angle. Negative too, but that’s also part of it. I’ve tried to ignore these negative feedbacks as much as possible.”
