Kasper Schmeichel is free to sign for a new club. A return to RSC Anderlecht now seems decidedly off the table. The deal now appears to be done.
Kasper Schmeichel’s contract with RSC Anderlecht expired this summer, so he could start talking to interested clubs after the European Championship with Denmark. The chances of him staying in Brussels were slim anyway.
It was no secret that Schmeichel wanted to return to England. “Every footballer wants to play in the Premier League,” he said during the European Championships. Father Peter added: “Kasper belongs to English football.”
So Wolverhampton Wanderers looked like the leading suitors for Kasper Schmeichel. They made a concrete offer and looked to have got him that way, despite a strong rival down the coast in Celtic Glasgow.
Celtic edge Wolves for Schmeichel
It is Brendan Rodgers who really wants to bring Schmeichel to Glasgow. Both men know each other well: Rodgers was Leicester City manager between 2019 and 2023. And now the Scots seem to be making it happen.
Schmeichel is set to sign a one-year deal with Glasgow Celtic with an option to extend for a further year. Meanwhile, English legends have also confirmed this. However, Kenny Dalglish seems convinced: “Celtic need a top-quality goalkeeper this summer and Kasper Schmeichel is that. I think this is an excellent signing. It goes without saying that he will come.” Sunday Post.
