Standard open the competition on Sunday when they visit KRC Genk. Despite the feeling of discomfort on the banks of the Maas, coach Ivan Leko is very positive.
Ivan Leko came to his first press conference of the season in a very good mood. He also did it in French for the first time.
The Croatian is really impressed and, despite all the club’s concerns, he immediately agreed. “I’m sitting here with a good feeling,” Het Belang van Limburg quoted Leko’s press conference as saying.
“I am happy with the new team spirit within the group. Everyone turns up at the club every morning with a smile. Together we will do everything we can to improve Standard’s position.
However, with KRC Genk and Club Brugge as the first opponents, it is not easy, but Leko expects his team to be up to the task immediately. Because ultimately there is another special reason to be so positive.
His opponents may not be fully ready for the new season. “That goes for many other clubs. If you lose fifteen players, it’s difficult to accommodate everyone. We have youngsters from SL16, but they still need time.
“We get energy from positive things like the good atmosphere that exists in the club at the moment. Every week we will improve a little bit. But on Sunday we will face the reality check. After that we will see where we stand.”
