Kamala Harris is the only Democrat running for president

Harris has 99 percent of delegates behind him, according to Democratic leadership. News site Politico writes that 3 opposing candidates have registered, but none have collected the required 300 signatures. Harris collected 3,923 signatures.

Thanks to virtual voting, the Democratic presidential nominee will be known before the Democratic convention in Chicago, Illinois, from August 19 to 22.

Incumbent President Joe Biden announced on Sunday, July 21, that he is withdrawing from the presidential race. Biden nominated Harris as his running mate and the Democratic Party soon unanimously endorsed his nomination. California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, among others — mentioned as possible candidates — soon expressed their support.

Harris, 59, faces Republican Donald Trump on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. It is currently unclear who is leading in the polls. A poll by political website The Hill put Trump at 51.3 percent and Harris at 48.7 percent. A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll showed Harris would win with 43 percent and Trump with less than 1 percent.
