Since the invasion of Russian border areas began, Ukrainian forces have captured 74 villages and settlements in the Kursk region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says that amounts to more than 1,000 square kilometers of Russian territory.
To date, Ukrainians say they have already penetrated 1-2 kilometers into Russian territory. There are many videos circulating on the social media platform Telegram, among other things, of soldiers removing Russian flags from public buildings and replacing them with Ukrainian ones.
It is certainly not the intention to stop now, as Kiev has informed us. “Unlike Russia, we do not aim to seize new territories,” a Ukrainian government spokesman said at a press conference. “We just want to protect the lives of our citizens.” Since Russia is constantly bombing Ukrainians with drones and missiles from the Kursk, the strike was completely justified, according to Ukraine.
The government hopes that Russia will be forced to withdraw its forces from the Ukrainian front to protect its territory. In addition, the military hopes to further complicate the Russians’ logistical operations, such as the supply of army equipment and rations.
