There have been rumors about the PS5 Pro for some time now. Sony has yet to reveal the console, but it seems practically certain that it will exist. It was reportedly publicly mentioned by developers at Gamescom 2024.
In the previous generation, both Sony and Microsoft released an improved console a few years later. While Microsoft doesn’t seem to be planning to give the Xbox Series X a major upgrade, there are plenty of rumors about the PS5 Pro. Many were hoping for an reveal at the PlayStation Showcase earlier this year, but that didn’t happen.
But new reports suggest that the PS5 Pro is just around the corner. Italian publication

WCCF Tech says it’s pretty sure it spoke to a developer other than Multiplayer. That means there were at least two studios present at Gamescom that discussed the PS5 Pro as an open secret.

Furthermore, the developer WCCF Tech spoke to isn’t a major studio. The publication doesn’t name names, but knowledge of the PS5 Pro isn’t limited to first-party studios and major partners. If smaller studios have also heard about the specs, it could mean that Sony doesn’t want to keep them a secret for long and will therefore make an announcement sooner.
The fact that a large percentage of all developers are now aware of the PS5 Pro is consistent with previous reports. It has been said for some time that all games submitted for release on the PS5 starting this fall will have to support the Pro version of the console. This is of course not possible if the specifications remain completely secret.
