Club Brugge acquired Barbera from Barcelona on a free transfer a year ago. He came to Belgium with the necessary letters of nobility and there was a lot of enthusiasm about the Spanish striker. But his first season in Belgium was not a success at all.
Barbera played just 57 minutes in seven games for Club Brugge’s first team. He mainly played for NXT in the Challenger Pro League, but that wasn’t a huge success story either. With 6 goals and 2 assists in 19 games, the balance was solid.
Barcelona still believes in him
He certainly no longer has the chance to play with the first team this season. Barcelona still believes in him and according to the newspaper, a return to Barcelona B is in the works. Club Brugge was supposed to impose a strong sale rate so that they could pass the cash register in the future.
Barbera has been a strong force in Barcelona B in the past, scoring 8 goals in 23 games. Will he take the next step in the coming years or will he be labelled an ‘eternal talent’? To be continued.
