National coach Thomas Voichler cannot use Julian Alavelippi during the Tokyo Olympics. The world champion, in consultation with the elected Voeckler and his team Deceuninck-Quick-Step, decided to pass for the games.
“Hello everyone, after much thought and in consultation with the national coach of the French national team and Deceuninck-Quick-Step, I decided not to run for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo,” Alaphilippe began his post on Twitter. “It is a personal and thoughtful decision.”
Options
“We have the end-of-season goals on paper, so options have to be made. I would like to proudly wear the national team kit during the next World Championships. Of course I wish the Tokyo team all the best. See you soon!”
Alaphilippe had to become the captain of the French national team in Tokyo, but now the national coach Voeckler will have to keep baffling to reach the ideal choice. The 28-year-old Alaphilippe participated in the former Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro five years ago. Then he finished fifth in the Olympic road race.
