Bundesliga
Robert Lewandowski equaled the unattainable record from Gerd Muller’s goal. From the penalty spot against Freiburg, he scored his 40th goal this season with Bayern Munich. Club icon Muller actually showed him to Bayern in the 1971-72 season.
Gerd Muller was the top scorer in the Bundesliga over the years with 365 goals. “Der Bomber” scored up to 40 goals in one season against the net in 1971-1972. A record that seemed almost unapproachable.
But Robert Lewandowski, who was number 2 on the all-time scorers’ list with 276 goals in the Bundesliga, managed to replicate the feat. He scored 40th this season from a penalty kick against Freiburg.
And Lewandowski could do better than club star Mueller. He has a half game against Freiburg and a home match against Augsburg in search of his 41st goal.
This is what the historical goal looks like:
“Reader. Unapologetic web fanatic. Student. Beer buff. Social media scholar. Alcohol advocate.”
