After his mountain biking trip, Matteo van der Bolle revealed his plans for this summer. “The tour is one of my goals, but Tokyo is my biggest goal,” says the Dutch leader of Alpecin-Fenix.
“We hope Tokyo will be the highlight of the summer.”
Last month, Matteo van der Bolle took his mountain bike from the stable to finish the World Cup twice. He became the cycling world champion, seventh in Alpstadt and second in Novi Mesto.
“It was really nice to get back on my mountain bike. I had some good results. Of course the preparation for these races was a bit short,” Van der Bolle says in a video for the Alpecin-Fenix team.
“Now I am in high training at La Plagne to prepare for the second half of the season. I will be well prepared for the next goals.”
Van der Boyle will make his tour debut on June 26. “The Tour de France is one of my goals, but the Olympic Games are my biggest goal.”
“I’ve been working for the Games for several years (going for the Olympic gold medal in mountain biking). I hope Tokyo is the summer highlight.”
Van der Paul: “I haven’t seen the stages of the tour yet”
With what ambitions Van der Boyle goes to his first tour? “It’s hard to say. I haven’t looked at the timeline yet.”
“But I’ll pick a few stages anyway and try to win a stage. That would be a success in my first round.”
For the tour, Van der Paul gets to race rhythm in the Switzerland Tour (June 6-13). “There it will become clear to me my condition. Also in Switzerland, I will see which stages suit me best and go for a victory in stages.”
