We are not going to Turkey, Tunisia or the Dominican Republic this summer…

Belgian tour operator Tui has canceled all holiday trips to destinations outside Europe this summer. Spokesperson Sarah Sosin confirms this to our editors. So popular destinations like Turkey, Tunisia and the Dominican Republic have been canceled in July and August.

For now, non-essential travel outside the European Union continues to be frustrating. And according to Saucin, there’s no improvement in sight for most outlying destinations either. “Almost all non-European destinations are still colored red and likely will remain so for a while. Since we want to provide clarity to our customers, we have now chosen to cancel all holiday packages to non-European destinations in July and August.”

Destinations pulled include Turkey, Tunisia, Mexico, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Maldives and Miami (USA). Sosin couldn’t say how many travelers now see their plans fizzle out. “High season is coming. With this decision, we are trying to offer our customers other options in time. In fact, we always do it like this: three weeks before departure we review the situation at the destination. If it still turns red, we cancel If it turns green or orange, the trip can continue. This gives travelers three weeks to choose another destination.”

Discount ends

For customers who book before April, this also means that their early discount will be cancelled. “We have to honor our contract with the hotel owner,” said Sosin. “Only if the traveler wants to keep the same flight, to the same hotel, but with departure at a later date, things can be reconsidered. Certainly if the traveler is leaving at the end of October, at the beginning of winter. In that case you will have an early bird discount even End of September. In other cases, unfortunately, the discount is no longer valid. ”
