The victims of the knife attack in the German city of Würzburg are mostly women, and they are suspected of having committed the triple murders abroad.

The attorney assigned to the defendant says after an interview that he believes there may have been no religious or extremist motive. But he hasn’t said anything officially about the incident yet.” The suspect will be taken to a cell today. He still suffers from a gunshot wound to the leg sustained during his arrest.

The city of Würzburg reacts in shock to the fatal stabbing incident. Residents put flowers and candles at the place where the Somali was stabbed. “It’s terrible. I’m sad and shocked. That’s why I came here,” said a woman. “Showing sympathy is the least you can do.”

State Premier Markus Söder announced that flags are being flown at half-mast throughout Bavaria. He described the events as “unbelievable and shocking” and praised the citizens who tried to arrest the perpetrator.

This is not the first time that Würzburg has rocked such an attack. About five years ago, an Afghan Muslim extremist injured people with an axe. The Islamic State later claimed responsibility for the attack.
