Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturns sentence for sexual assault of former TV star Bill Cosby

The American actor and comedian was sentenced in 2018 to prison terms ranging from 3 to 10 years, of which he has already spent more than two years in a Philadelphia prison.

He was convicted of drugging and assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004. In 2015, he was arrested and charged just days before his case expired.

That conviction has now been overturned after it was discovered that Cosby had an agreement with the former attorney general in the Andrea Constand sexual assault case, preventing him from being charged in the case. When he gave (harmful) testimony in the case, he should not have been charged, according to the Supreme Court. After all, Cosby relied on the agreement with the attorney general that he could not be charged.

Overturning a conviction and preventing further prosecution is the only way to meet society’s reasonable expectations of elected prosecutors and our criminal justice system.

Cosby became world famous for his role in “The Cosby Show”, a popular television series of the 1980s.

Here is an overview of the career prior to Cosby’s arrest (April 29, 2018):
