And whether Remco Evenepoel is interested in the Olympic Games. “It’s now almost a year since the games were originally supposed to take place, and about a year after I’m out. So it’s really nice to be here.”
Tonight he will leave for Japan on an 11-hour flight. “It’s an advantage that it’s an overnight flight. I did a good workout today, so I’ll sleep well (laughs). If I can sleep for eight hours, I’ll be fine for the other three. Why bring my own pillow? You never know the quality you expect in hotels.”
Evenepoel recently went to Italy’s Livigno, where he completed an alpine training. It’s a very good choice, he says. “I took a few steps forward there, and got a little better. Now I will complete some good training sessions in Tokyo in the coming days.”
Let’s start with any ambition in two weeks? “Wout (van Aert, ed.) and I can go together for a medal. But Wout does a very good job, so he’s way ahead of the rest. For the rest, we’re going to make the most of it and above all enjoy it.”
