The Tour de Wallonie finds an alternative to the canceled second stage
Tue Jul 20 2021 11:20am20
The second stage of the Tour de Wallonie will not take place on Wednesday. The organization decided this with the cities of Ververs and Hervey after the tragic events that occurred last week with the floods. Both cities were badly affected by the disaster.
Herve municipal council says in its response that it cannot guarantee optimal conditions to accommodate an international cycling race such as the Tour de Wallonie. “Firefighters, police, municipal workers and security guards have been working for a week and focusing on the affected municipalities. This is especially true for Verviers, Pepinster, Theux, Olne, Trooz and Chaudfontaine. They assist affected civilians after a disaster, look for victims, clean streets and secure access roads and homes. affected.”
The organization of the Tour de Wallonie interacts through Christoph Brandt. We stand in solidarity with the victims of the severe weather that affected mainly eastern Belgium. We agree with the decision to cancel the second leg. “Today’s priority is solidarity,” Brandt said.
The Tour de Wallonia (20-24 July) will start on Tuesday with a stage from Genapé to Heron. A minute’s silence is observed before setting off on the lives of victims of bad weather and floods. Reportedly, Thursday’s flight will begin with a long neutral. (July 19 at 6.04pm)
Update – Tour de Wallonie finds a replacement
The Tour de Wallonie found an alternative to the canceled second stage. The stage will continue to go forward, but then on the Circuit Zolder circuit for a distance of over 120 kilometers (thirty laps of four kilometers). The start signal is given at 3 pm.
The Zolder circuit has often welcomed major cycling, such as the Belgian Championship in 1963 and the World Championships in 1969 and 2002. A stage of the Tour de France in 1981, which Eddie Blankart won, also ended here.
